I am John Zimmers, CPM®, ABR® and SFR®. I am one of few brokers with a twenty year plus career in Asset/Property Management serving some of the City’s premier Real Estate Investment families. This gives me unique insight to the entire development of the City. By serving these families, I gained tremendous knowledge through their experiences as they invested and developed the City of Chicago for over a century. The original Gold Coast was in the Prairie District, do you know why?
In the not so distant past, going west of Halsted or south of Congress was high risk territory, my, how times have changed. Do you think it would be important to work with a team that understands all 77 of Chicago’s Communities as well as the nearly 200 neighborhoods that were established in the 1920’s by University Of Chicago researches?
In addition, would it be important to work with someone who understands the difference between buying in a terra cotta clad building, or an industrial loft conversion, versus a glass wall building? That being said, I have overseen tens of millions of dollars in rehab and construction projects throughout the City. Matter of fact, after one of the City’s largest and most prestigious engineering firms said that it could not be done, I lead a team of contractors on a project to allow The Fine Arts Building to stand on its own heating plant, after relying on neighboring properties for over a 124 years! With perseverance, diligence, and a never quit mentality, my client was able to obtain their goal. Do you remember when Macy’s bought Marshall Fields and found out that the State Street location was the heating plant for several neighboring properties?
