I have had this question asked to me quite often over the 31 years I have been practicing real estate sales and the answer depends on the current economic climate of the times and the particular circumstance of why the owner is selling.
A competent Real Estate agent can offer advice and information to add light to that decision. For instance, currently here in December 2020 I would suggest that it is probably a good time for most Sellers. The Real Estate market is very active right now with many multiple offer situations around the city and province. We do not have a crystal ball to know what the market will be in the new year but the market is hot now. Why wait. Interest rates are at record lows.
There is also positivity in the news in regards to vaccines to tackle the pandemic. Protocols we agents have adopted to protect clients have made the home search safer. With the current pandemic families are likely staying closer to home. With the celebrations rather muted conversation will likely include plans for buying or selling instead of which beach you are going to lie on to get that Hollywood tan. Christmas lights are on almost every other home so it looks pretty nice driving around late afternoon and evening to view homes.
The holiday season is a great time to put your home on the market with the right agent. Have a fantastic holiday season.
